Monday, 30 March 2020 Air India will from Tuesday operate nine charter flights from cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to Frankfurt on its wide-body aircraft to fly Germans back home over next few days. These aircraft will fly back from Germany to India as ferry flights (with no passengers)

In a press conference on June 20, Union Civil Aviation Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri said that close to 2,75,000 Indians were brought back to the country in flights and ships during the lockdown. Puri said, "The Air India family bringing back people109000, we have our private carriers and other private carriers of other nationalities bringing back another 100,000 plus .Close to 2,75,000 Indians, who were stranded in foreign countries, have been brought back to the country in flights and ships during the lockdown. We are doing our best."
Former cricketer and legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar on July 8 inaugurated a plasma donation center at Seven Hills Hospital, for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in Mumbai. While speaking to ANI the 'Master Blaster' congratulated BMC and administration of Seven Hills Hospital for the initiative. Maharashtra has so far 89,313 active cases and 9250 deaths.
National Centre for Ageing in Chennai has been turned into a 750-bedded COVID hospital. Fully-equipped hospital is set to open today in Guindy area. It is likely to be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Several beds in the hospital are fitted with oxygen and ventilators. To ease patients' stress level, hospital authorities has build special rooms consisting of library, yoga centre. Over 20,000 active cases exist in Tamil Nadu's capital.
A group of engineers in Chennai have come up with a technology to form a bridge between COVID-19 patients and health workers. The device name is called "etiicos COVID-19 Patient Care System." It inter-connects patients and attendees wirelessly within 1kilo meter radius circles. More than 100 patients can be displayed in the monitor. Etiicos Covid-19 Patient Care System inventor, Vigneshwar KG said, "Both patients and doctors are affected psychologically and it also affects the number of death cases. This is a digital solution which connects corona patients and doctors and nurses."
Indian Coast Guard rescued six Sri Lankan fishermen by a merchant vessel YM Summit from 170 nautical miles east of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The rescue operation was coordinated by Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) of Mumbai and Chennai on July 05 morning. The merchant vessel was on her way to Visakhapatnam when she sighted a capsized fishing boat with six survivors atop, at about 07:15 am on 05 Jul 2020, approximately 170 nautical miles east of Chennai. The master transmitted the information to MRCC, Mumbai which was timely shared with MRCC, Chennai for further coordination. MRCC Chennai coordinated with the vessel for safe rescue of the survivors. The six survivors are identified as natives of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. They were reportedly stranded and adrift at sea, braving the vagaries of rough weather for four days. MRCC, Chennai further, coordinated with the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission, Chennai and MRCC Colombo to verify the credentials and arranging for their safe return to home.
With a spike of 22,252 cases, India's COVID-19 case count crossed seven lakh on Tuesday while 467 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. According to the Union Health Ministry, the total count of cases reached 7,19,665 on Tuesday and the death toll has gone up to 20,160. Of the total count of cases, 2,59,557 are active cases and 4,39,948 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated. The total count has increased from six to seven lakh in five days. The Health Ministry said that the number of recovered patients reached 4,39,947 today and the number was 1,80,390 more than the active cases. India's recovery rate has gone up to 61.13 per cent. Maharashtra continued to remain the worst-affected state, 5134 new positive cases and 224 deaths were reported on July 07. Tamil Nadu, being second in the tally, reported 3616 fresh COVID-19 cases and 65 deaths today. 2008 new COVID-19 positive cases and 50 deaths were reported in Delhi. The Union Health Ministry said that COVID-19 tests in India crossed 1 crore mark as a result of continuously expanding network of testing labs in the country. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 2,41,430 samples were tested for COVID-19 on July 6 which has taken the total number of samples tested till Monday to 1,02,11,092.
Journalists staged silent protest outside Press Club of India in Delhi on July 07 and demanded judicial inquiry into death of a journalist who jumped off AIIMS building on July 06. In accordance with Union Health Minister's order, a high-level committee has been set up that'll submit report within 48 hours.
Deputy Director-General of IMD, Anand Sharma on July 07, informed that Delhi-NCR will receive moderate thundershower for next 24 hours and after that light rain thundershowers for the next 48 hours. He said, "For next 24 hours, we expect a moderate thundershower in Delhi-NCR and after that for the next 48 hours we expect light rain thundershowers. This will lead to normal and below normal temperatures but we don't expect heavy showers at the moment." He further said, "We have a cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra and Kutch, another cyclonic circulation on Jharkhand has weakened and another cyclonic circulation is present over coastal Andhra Pradesh."

German industrial orders rebounded moderately in May and a fifth of firms in Europe's biggest economy said in a survey published on Monday they feared insolvency, adding to expectations of a slow and painful recovery from the coronavirus slowdown. Francis Maguire reports.
