'Unhappy MLAs should attend assembly session': Gehlot to rebel legislators

Expressing confidence that his government will complete its full term, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said 'unhappy MLAs' should attend the assembly session as they have been elected on Congress symbol. Gehlot said he wants rebel MLAs to attend the assembly session next month and also took a veiled dig at MLAs supporting former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, saying they were 'playing the lap of BJP'. "I still want that those unhappy MLAs should attend the assembly session as they have been elected on Congress symbol. It is my responsibility to ensure that they are seen standing with the government in front of the public," he said. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra agreed to convene assembly session on August 14. Speaking on it, the Chief Minister said he was happy that the governor has finally accepted his request to call the Assembly. Gehlot also attacked BSP chief Mayawati and alleged that she is making remarks under pressure from BJP. "Mayawati's complaint is not logical as all six BSP MLAs merged with us. She is giving a statement under pressure from BJP. The Centre is using ED, Income Tax, CBI and hence she is forced to give such a statement," he alleged.

Sachin Pilot congratulates Rajasthan's new Congress chief amid political crisis

Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot congratulated state's new Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra on Wednesday. Pilot also hoped that the new chief will take care of the party workers whose hard work helped Congress to form the government in the state. Pilot's statement came after Dotasra formally took over as Rajasthan Congress chief. Pilot was Congress chief in Rajasthan before he was sacked from the post earlier this month. He was sacked after he rebelled against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Pilot was the Congress president in Rajasthan for six years. He was widely credited for leading party to victory in 2018 assembly polls. Meanwhile, CM Gehlot trooped to the residence of Governor Kalraj Mishra. This came after Raj Bhavan returned his proposal to convene session of state assembly for third time. The state government had proposed Mishra to reiterate its demand to convene assembly session from July 31. Gehlot government, however, didn't mention whether it will seek a trust vote in the House. Earlier, Mishra had suggested a 21-day notice period to convene the House. He had sought clarity on session’s agenda and also advised live-streaming of the floor test, in case it was held. Mishra had also asked about Covid-19 pandemic-related precautions in the assembly.

Watch: Sachin Pilot's response to Ashok Gehlot's 'nikamma' jibe

While Sachin Pilot has made truce with the Congress party, questions are now being raised on how he would get along with CM Gehlot. During the peak of the crisis in Rajasthan, several Gehlot backers had launched  a tirade against Pilot and his loyalists. The Chief Minister himself had once referred to Pilot as 'nikamma' and accused him of conspiring to topple the state government with the help of the BJP. Gehlot had said that Pilot had a meteoric rise in the party but he used his innocent face to get a sway over the media and provoke MLAs to rebel against his government. Sachin Pilot has now responded to the jibes and said that some of the things that were said were saddening and added that he would never cross the Lakshman Rekha in attacking anybody. In a jibe at Gehlot, he said that the Chief Minister is elder to him and he would refrain from responding to his attacks but added that the facts are now out for everyone to see. 'Not worried about posts, was a battle of ideology': Sachin Pilot

Weeks after raising the banner of rebellion in Rajasthan and putting the Gehlot government under threat, Sachin Pilot has now made truce with the Congress. This happened after a meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi & Priyanka Gandhi. Speaking to the media, Pilot said that he only wanted to raise some issues that had been bothering him and his supporters. Responding to the statements made by many party leaders against him, Pilot said that there should be some restraint. He added that the party has worked very hard to form government in Rajasthan and thanked the Congress top brass for hearing him out. Meanwhile, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that he is glad that Pilot has decided not to leave the Congress and said that he has always been in favour of such young and dynamic leaders remaining within the party fold. Tharoor added that all Congress leaders must come  together to protect the party and the country as well.
