Crops in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada were damaged after water level of Krishna River rose due to heavy rainfall in the region. Speaking on the dreadful situation, Krishna District Magistrate said, "Krishna river is getting an unprecedented influx of water. We're evacuating low lying areas and deploying NDRF and SDRF teams."
Heavy rainfall has been lashing Andhra Pradesh leading to flood-like situation in several parts of the state. Over ten people have died in different parts of the state. Several houses collapsed leading many to shift to safer places. A team from the Indian Army also rescued people from rain affected areas using boats. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy also visited the rain affected areas while Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy held a meeting with district officials via video conference. He has ordered to provide Rs 500 financial aid to those in the rehabilitation camps, so that they do not face problems after going to their houses. The Central government has also offered assistance to the state in tiding over the situation. The CM said that the deep depression, which caused the heavy rain since Monday, has crossed the land and that normalcy is being restored. Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc parts of Andhra Pradesh. Several houses submerged in East Godavari district following heavy downpour. A house collapsed due to heavy flow of water. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review of the flood situation and heavy rains in the state, during a video conference with all district collectors.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar should meet with Chief Minister of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana every month to find a solution to the menace of pollution. ‘This issue is important and cannot be handled at that level. I appealed to the centre to have monthly meetings with the Chief Ministers of UP, Delhi, Punjab Haryana regarding this issue, and work in a systematic and dedicated manner with fixed deadlines,’ Kejriwal added. Kejriwal also said that he does not agree with Javadekar’s claim that it would take at least 4 years to tackle pollution. He said that India’s engineers and scientists have found ways to curb stubble burning but there is a lack of political will to implement those steps. ‘Stubble is a huge liability right now. We can convert it into an opportunity. There is only one condition: Do we have the political will? Or will we politicise this as well?’ he asked. A dalit woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint by 2 men, including a former village head in UP's Kanpur. The incident took place in Derapur town of Kanpur. Speaking to ANI, SP of Kanpur dehat, Keshav Kumar Choudhary said, "On victim's complaint, we have registered a case against 2 men belonging to same caste as her's. Gujarat government has allowed offering of prayers at temples but garba has been banned. This year, October 17 marked the first day of the nine-day long Navratri festival. Celebrations of Sharad (autumn) Navratri involve worshipping Goddess Durga, her nine forms. The festival is celebrated in different ways across the country. Over the next nine days, devotees offer their prayers to Goddess Durga and observe fasts. Also known as Sharad Navratri, the festival marks Durga's victory over demon Mahishasura.
