Union Cabinet approves adoption of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act
Wednesday, 21 October 2020 The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the adoption of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, a government spokesperson said. Briefing the press after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union minister Prakash Javadekar said the move will help establish all the three tiers of grassroots-level democracy in Jammu and Kashmir like in other parts of the country.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar informed that the Union Cabinet has approved adaptation of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989. "This move will help establish all the three tiers of grass-root level democracy like in other parts of the country," he said.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced that the union cabinet has approved the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for White Goods (Air Conditioners and LED Lights). The cabinet has approved PLI scheme for manufacturing of white goods (that is, air-conditioners and LEDs) and high-frequency solar PV modules.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday held a roadshow in Kerala ahead of upcoming Assembly polls. Shah was campaigning for BJP candidates in Kerala. The Union Minister also campaigned for “Metro man” E Sreedharan. Sreedharan recently joined BJP. Shah took out a whistlestop tour of poll-bound Kerala attacking the ruling CPI(M-led LDF and the Congress-headed UDF, saying the two fronts had made the state a "den of corruption". All physical toll booths in the country will be removed and replaced by GPS imaging technology within one year, informed Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday. While addressing the Lok Sabha, Gadkari added that toll money will be collected based on GPS which will capture an image of the vehicle and charge accordingly. "I want to assure the House that within one year, all physical toll booths in the country will be removed. Toll money will be collected based on GPS imaging. At the entry of the road, there will be a camera that will capture an image on GPS. Toll money will be charged based on where one is coming and going from," the Union Minister said. India and the European Union (EU) on Saturday announced their decision to resume negotiations for a balanced and comprehensive trade agreement after a gap of eight years and unveiled an ambitious connectivity partnership, during a virtual meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of 27 member nations of the bloc. In his remarks, Modi invited the EU to support a proposal by India and South Africa to waive patents on COVID-19 vaccines so that there can be equitable vaccine access for the entire world, officials said. The meeting, participated by leaders of EU member states as well as the top leadership of the EU, also decided to launch negotiations on two other key agreements on investment protection and geographical indications.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited EU member states to participate in India-EU High Level Digital Forum that's likely to be held later this year, informed Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary Vikas Swarup on May 08. "PM also invited EU member states to participate in India-EU High Level Digital Forum that's likely to be held later this year, to enhance digital cooperation between India and EU via linking of start-ups supporting digital economy and for enhancing investments," said MEA Secretary (West).

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over violence in the state. Javadekar slammed TMC over the attack on Union Minister V Muraleedharan. Earlier in the day, the minister’s convoy was attacked. Muraleedharan alleged that his convoy was “attacked by TMC goons”. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar questioned the safety of common people in West Bengal after the attack on the convoy of Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan who was visiting Paschim Medinipur after post-poll violence was reported in several parts of the state. "If a minister's convoy can be attacked, then, who is safe in Bengal? This is state-sponsored violence. We condemn violence in Bengal. Special measures should be taken to bring the culprits to justice," said Union Minister Javadekar.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar rejected claims of shortage in Covid-19 vaccine supply. Javadekar accused the Maharashtra government of wasting five lakh doses during the vaccination process. This comes as health ministers of some states said that there is a shortage of vaccines and demanded more doses from the Centre. The concept was started when the owner Rayees Ahmad got a lot of distress calls from people outside Kashmir, wanting food to be delivered to their Covid-hit parents.

Three terrorists were killed during an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on May 6. The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kanigam area of the South Kashmir district during the night following information about the presence of terrorists. An official said as the presence of four newly recruited terrorists of Al-Badr outfit got ascertained, the security forces exercised maximum restraint and tried their best to persuade them to surrender.
