Set up body for power balance among 3 organs, govt advised
Friday, 27 November 2020 The two-day All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, which concluded here in Gujarat on Thursday, passed several important resolutions, including one urging the government to set up a body, comprising the President, Lok Sabha Speaker and Chief Justice of India, to oversee the constitutional balance between the legislature, executive and judiciary.
After emerging victorious in Gujarat municipal corporation and zila panchayat elections, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar held a press conference on March 03. Stating number comparison between results of 2015 and 2021 elections, Javadekar said that Congress has been completely wiped off. "Last week in Gujarat MCD elections over 6 seats, and BJP emerged victorious on all seats. But the results that came out yesterday for over 31 district panchayat, which basically includes voters who belong to villages and are farmers. Last time in 2015, Congress won 22 district panchayat seats and BJP was at 9. But this time, BJP has won all 31 seats and Congress has been wiped out completely. BJP has won 80% seats out of 979," said Prakash Javadekar.

As farmers hold 9th round of talks with the government, protesting farmers held a shirtless protest at the Tikri border against the farm laws. Meanwhile, Bhupinder Mann, who quit the SC appointed panel to break the deadlock over farm laws, has said that since farmers have refused to talk to the committee, there is no point in being a part of it. He added that he stated his stand to the Chief Justice of India and recused himself from the panel. The Supreme Court had earlier stayed the implementation of the farm laws and also appointed a committee to listen to the grievances of the farmers. Farmer Unions, however, said that they would not attend any talks with the panel and insisted that their only demand is the complete withdrawal of the Centre’s farm laws. The Supreme Court on January 12 stayed the implementation of three farms laws until further orders. SC on Tuesday ordered and formed a four-member committee to hold talks with farmers over the act. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde had said that the committee will be a part of judicial proceedings.
West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh is confident of the party's win in state assembly polls. Ghosh said that BJP will sweep Bengal polls by 200 of the total 294 Assembly seats. "We (BJP) are ready for the fight in the West Bengal Assembly elections. TMC is scared of losing, its ministers are asking other parties to join them. We will not get less than 200 (seats), it will definitely be more than 200. We did not begin preparations today, we had started five years back. We have proceeded phase-wise, we all saw results in Lok Sabha elections. We are going ahead with the mantra of '19 mein half, 21 mein saaf," he said. Elections to 294-member West Bengal Assembly will begin on March 27. The eight-phase polling will conclude on April 29, results on May 2. Bengal is likely to see a triangular contest with TMC, Congress-Left alliance and BJP in the fray.
