Maharashtra orders probe into 'denial' of specs to Navlakha by jail
Thursday, 10 December 2020 Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh has ordered a probe into Taloja prison authorities allegedly denying Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case accused Gautam Navlakha spectacles after they refused to accept a parcel sent by the latter's family. Deshmukh made the announcement on Twitter. "Bhima-Koregaon case accused Gautam Navlakha denied spectacles by jail authorities as they refused to accept parcel sent by his family," Deshmukh said in the tweet.

Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis accused Maharastra Police of harassing a Daman-based Remdesivir supplier for agreeing to supply a stock of the drug to the state on the request of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. “We had requested Bruck Pharma to supply a stock of Remdesivir vials to Maharashtra. They said they couldn't until permissions were given. I spoke with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and got Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s permission. Tonight around 9 pm, the police arrested him," said Fadnavis. He added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manjunath Singe told they had inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials and they only wanted to verify the same. Journalists recall release of CRPF jawan by naxals in Chhattisgarh. The abducted CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh was released by naxals. Manhas was brought to the CRPF camp in Bijapur after he was released. “A press note was released saying that the government is preparing a team for mediation. Bastar IGP was informed; a two-member team was formed. Maoists asked us to come with the team formed by the government. 35-40 maoists were present, several adivasis were present there. The soldier was released in our presence and handed over to us,” a journalist said. Another said, We went to the place where the soldier was kept. Soldier is healthy but he is mentally troubled. He told me that he got lost during the ambush. Maoists said that they were leaving him on humanitarian grounds. They (maoists) said that the soldier be sent back home. Bringing back the soldier was everyone’s responsibility.”

Family members of missing CoBRA jawan urged the government to take action and ensure his release. This comes after Maoists claimed that the missing CoBRA commando is in their custody. Maoists also sought the appointment of a mediator to whom he could be handed over. Constable Rakeshwar Singh Manhas went missing after the gunfight along Chhattisgarh’s Sukma-Bijapur border. Meanwhile, Rakeshwar’s family along with locals blocked the Jammu-Akhnoor highway. Demanding his release, the family alleged that neither the Centre nor the state governments are taking action to bring the jawan back. The CoBRA jawan was part of a squad that had gone for an anti-Naxal operation on Friday. As many as 22 security personnel were killed and 31 others were injured in the fierce gunbattle.

Locals along with family of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, who has been held captive by Naxals following the April 03 encounter, blocked Jammu-Akhnoor highway on April 07 demanding his release. Mother and wife of Manhas alleged that Centre or Chhattisgarh government is not taking any action to bring back Rakeshwar. CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas was part of the team that was attacked by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur and has been held captive by them. Communist Party of India (Maoist) released a statement and confirmed abduction of the CRPF jawan during the encounter that happened on April 03 in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur.
