Nearly a month after West Bengal's political heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP, his father and TMC Lok Sabha MP Sisir Adhikari was on Wednesday removed as East Midnapore district president, party sources said.

Meanwhile, in a fresh setback to the Trinamool Congress, Arindam Bhattacharya joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that he wants to join PM Modi’s mission of making an Atmanirbhar Bengal. Ahead of West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took "responsibility" of ensuring BJP's victory from Nandigram constituency. "I take the responsibility of ensuring the victory of whoever contests from Nandigram on BJP ticket. Didi (Mamata Banerjee) has announced to contest from there, relying on 62,000 votes but I have 2.13 lakh people who chant 'Jai Shri Ram'. At a rally, TMC state president Subrata Bakshi said - 'Jai Shri Ram nahi chalega'. In elections, people of Nandigram will give a befitting reply to those who coin such slogans," said Suvendu Adhikari.
