BJP MP appeals EC to postpone Panchayat polls in UP

BJP MP Kaushal Kishore from Mohanlalganj Kaushal Kishore has appealed to Election Commission to postpone panchayat polls amid rise in COVID-19 cases. "COVID-19 cases in Lucknow is increasing rapidly, saving life of people is important conducting election is not," he said. The first phase of polling of Uttar Pradesh Gram Panchayat Election will take place on April 15, second phase on April 19, third phase on April 26 and fourth on April 29.

Yogi Adityanath, Akhilesh Yadav test positive for Covid-19

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. Taking to Twitter, Adityanath said he is in self-isolation and doing tasks virtually. On Tuesday, the CM isolated himself after some staffers in his office tested positive. Development comes shortly after the UP CM wrapped up his campaign for Bengal polls. Adityanath took the first jab of COVID-19 vaccine on April 05 at a Civil Hospital in Lucknow. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has tested positive for coronavirus. Yadav had recently visited Haridwar where Kumbh Mela is underway & met religious leaders. Uttar Pradesh urban development minister Ashutosh Tandon has also tested positive. UP govt has already announced restrictions on gatherings of people in view of Covid. Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday reported highest-ever single-day spike of 18,021 cases and 85 deaths. Adityanath govt has also imposed a night curfew in districts with over 500 active cases.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 14 tested positive for COVID-19. He is in a self-isolation since April 13 after few staff members tested COVID positive. The UP CM took the first jab of COVID-19 vaccine on April 05 at a Civil Hospital in Lucknow.

Ahead of panchayat polls, Ghaziabad police busted three illegal arms manufacturing factories on April 13. 47 country-made pistols, live cartridges have been seized from their possession. Police arrested 18 people in connection with the crime. Uttar Pradesh Panchayat polls will start from April 15.

Man, woman found shot dead inside car in Lucknow

A man and a woman were found shot dead in a car in Bania Khera area of Lucknow Cantt at around 9 pm on April 12. "Prima facie, it seems the man shot the woman dead before shooting himself," said Additional DCP (East) Qasim Abidi.

Ambulance engulfs in flames outside Lucknow welding shop

An ambulance caught fire outside a welding shop at Kineshwar Chauraha in Lucknow city on April 12. The ambulance was at the welding shop for repair. Oxygen cylinder blasted at the welding shop leading to the ambulance catching fire. Fire Tenders and Police reached the spot, and flames were brought in control. Devotees offer prayers on first day of Navratri

Navratri, festival of goddess Durga commenced from April 13 and will end on April 22, witnessed devotees in large numbers at the temples. Morning aarti was performed at Delhi's Jhandewalan temple. Temple has been closed for general public in view of rising COVID cases in national capital. In Varanasi, Devotees thronged Durga temple in large numbers to offer prayers on the auspicious occasion of navratri. The festival, which falls during the spring season every year, is considered auspicious among various communities in the country. Navratris always begin with the ritual of Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana. Devotees of the Goddess Supreme Durga, observe a fast for nine consecutive days and pray for health, forgiveness, and prosperity. It also marks the birthday of Lord Rama, which usually falls on the ninth day during the Navratri festivity, and is also known as Rama Navratri.
