Cabinet clears Rs 13k cr plan to train artisans

The Indian Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 13,000-crore scheme aimed at benefitting 30 lakh families, mostly from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, by offering collateral-free subsidised loans of up to Rs 2 lakh at a 5% concessional interest rate. The Vishwakarma Yojna scheme, which will be formally announced on September 17, seeks to offer training, new tools and market access, as well as low-interest credit support, in addition to stipends and cash for modern tools.
