Wayanad had special place in M S Swaminathan's heart

IndiaTimes Friday, 29 September 2023
M S Swaminathan, an advocate for equity and sustainable development, established the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) Community Agrobiodiversity Centre (CAbC) in Wayanad, India in 1997. The CAbC has played a crucial role in agrobiodiversity conservation, helping traditional farmers gain exclusive rights to produce and sell their rice varieties. Additionally, the centre has contributed to the conservation and documentation of the wild plant diversity in Wayanad, including rare, endemic, and threatened species. The MS Swaminathan Botanical Garden houses over 1,000 plant species, including 200 rare and endangered trees.
