Pendency erodes people's faith in judicial system, says Supreme Court

IndiaTimes Friday, 20 October 2023
The Supreme Court has expressed concern over the inordinate delays in legal proceedings and the impact it has on people's faith in the judicial system. Many cases have been pending for several decades, leading to disillusionment among the litigant public. The court has called for proactive measures to streamline the process, including curbing adjournments and ensuring speedy justice. It has directed all high courts to monitor lower courts to address the backlog of cases and meet the expectations of the litigants.
