Denied boarding? Airline must pay Rs 20k + refund if alternative unsuitable

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 8 November 2023
Air India has been issued a show cause notice by the DGCA for failing to comply with regulations regarding passenger facilities related to denied boarding, flight cancellations, and delays. The notice comes after Air India was fined Rs 10 lakh last year for not compensating passengers who were denied boarding. In September alone, there were 663 cases of denied boarding, 40,940 cancelled flights, and 120,000 delayed flights. Airlines are allowed to overbook but must first ask for volunteers to give up seats before denying boarding.
