The air quality in Delhi is in the 'severe' category, but there is expected to be a slight improvement ahead of Diwali. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) is currently at 420. Stubble burning in neighboring states accounts for 38% of the pollution, while transport contributes 12-14%. The Delhi government has rescheduled the winter break for schools and banned app-based taxis. The odd-even car rationing scheme will also be implemented. Doctors have warned that breathing in Delhi's polluted air is equivalent to smoking 10 cigarettes a day.
