A private clinic in Puducherry has been ordered by the National Consumer Redressal Commission to pay ₹13.7 lakh in compensation to a woman who had a bolt and nut left in her abdomen after a surgery in 1991. The woman had to undergo another surgery in 2003 to remove the foreign objects. The clinic had initially offered a free surgery and ₹50,000 compensation, but the woman demanded ₹84 lakh. The state commission previously ordered the clinic to pay ₹6 lakh, which was upheld by the national commission.
