According to a report by the NGO Praja Foundation, 61% of rape cases registered in Mumbai from 2018 to 2022 were under the POCSO Act. The report also highlighted that out of 3,360 Pocso Act cases being probed in 2022, 73% were pending investigation. Activists have called for more special courts and better resources including trained police officers. The report also revealed a 130% increase in rape cases and a 105% increase in molestation cases in the past ten years. There is a shortage of police officers involved in crime investigation and a shortage of personnel at the state forensic science laboratory.
