Worst of stubble-burning days over for this winter

The stubble burning season appears to be receding, with daily farm fire counts in Punjab and Haryana remaining below 100 now. Satellites detected a 26% decline in farm fires in Punjab, with 36,614 paddy residue burning events in 2023 compared to 49,888 in 2022. Haryana recorded a 37% dip in stubble burning. However, Uttar Pradesh saw an increase in farm fires. Wheat sowing has already been done in Punjab and Haryana, while farm fires will continue in eastern UP till December 20.
