With 46.5% turnout, laggard Hyderabad disappoints yet again

IndiaTimes Friday, 1 December 2023
Hyderabad's disappointing turnout of 46.5% in the Telangana assembly elections was attributed to urban apathy, long queues, and split votes. Despite efforts to increase awareness and engagement, the IT belt of the city failed to impress, with areas like Serilingampally, Rajendernagar, and Kukatpally showing a decline in voter turnout compared to previous years. Gated community residents mentioned factors such as extended weekends and holiday vacations as contributing to the low participation. Residents complained of waiting in line for hours, and electors expressed frustration over the lack of new booths despite the increase in enrollment.
