Karnataka's MBBS seats highest, medical colleges 2nd in India

IndiaTimes Saturday, 16 December 2023
Karnataka, the pre-eminent medical hub, faces a threat as north Indian states see a tremendous increase in MBBS seats. The health and family welfare ministry data shows that Tamil Nadu has the highest number of medical colleges. Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan have witnessed significant growth in medical seats. The National Medical Commission's plan to link new college sanctioning with state population may benefit bigger states. Private colleges in Karnataka may be affected, but established ones remain popular. The increase in medical colleges across districts without proper staff and resources is a concern. The centrally sponsored scheme aims to establish new medical colleges in underserved areas.
