Another 'wave' of Covid is most unlikely: Virologist

Karnataka is on high alert due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in Kerala and the detection of the JN-1 sub-variant of SARS-CoV2 in the coastal state. Most patients in Kerala are recovering without treatment. Dr. Jacob John, a virologist, stated that all sub-variants of Omicron, including JN.1, are less virulent than previous variants. He also mentioned that JN.1 has a slight advantage in transmission and can be expected to be present all over India if tested for. Neighbouring states like Karnataka should increase their Covid-19 preparedness.
