Is 24-hour hospitalisation must for medical claims?

IndiaTimes Sunday, 24 December 2023
Should insurance companies deny paying medical claims if a policy holder is not hospitalised for at least 24 hours for a surgery or to receive treatment as many procedures now only take a few hours, thanks to advancements in medical care? The consumer affairs ministry said it will take up the issue with insurance regulator IRDAI and the department of financial services (DFS). This concern was flagged by the National Consumer Commission chief on Sunday at an event on National Consumer Rights Day.
