Gujarat: Cardiac crisis at record high, EMRI got 1 call every 7.5 minutes in 2023

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 3 January 2024
The year 2023 in Gujarat was marked by a high prevalence of sudden deaths due to cardiac arrests, with a record number of cardiac emergencies recorded. Ahmedabad had the highest number of calls per population, followed by Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Devbhoomi Dwarka. The trend was observed not only in major cities but also in tribal districts. Factors such as tobacco consumption and lifestyle choices contribute to the rise in cardiovascular diseases. The lack of data on cardiac arrests has been a topic of debate, despite the numerous videos on social media depicting sudden deaths. Access to health facilities and urbanization in rural areas also play a role in the increasing number of cardiac emergencies.
