In 1976-77, when Ayodhya wasn't a prominent issue, former ASI officer KK Muhammed began his tryst with the site as a trainee under Prof BB Lal, who led the first excavation. A special invitee to Monday's consecration ceremony, this restorer of over 100 Hindu temples highlighted the evidence found during the initial excavation, emphasising the existence of a temple below the Babri mosque.
