The Quad alliance, consisting of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, was reinstated in 2017 in response to China's growing assertiveness in world affairs. The alliance, initially formed as the 'Tsunami Core Group' after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, has evolved into a more substantial entity.
