Calm before storm? Depression likely to cross coast near Chennai tomorrow

Chennai experienced heavy rains as the northeast monsoon set in, with 12cm recorded in Nungambakkam. IMD issued a red alert predicting extremely heavy rainfall in multiple districts. On Thursday, a depression is expected to cross near Chennai, bringing winds of 35-55 kmph. Some areas like Puzhal recorded up to 16cm of rainfall.
