SIT to probe issual of ‘fake birth certificates’ to Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in Malegaon

Maharashtra government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe BJP leader Kirit Somaiya's claims of fake birth certificates issued to Bangladeshi Muslims and Rohingyas in Malegaon. Somaiya alleged around 1,000 such fraudulent certificates were issued. The issue centers on misuse of the 2023 amendment allowing tehsildar offices to issue birth certificates for home births.
