IIT-Bombay study links Pune-Mumbai Expressway vehicle pollution to cancer, climate warming
Wednesday, 16 April 2025
A recent IIT-Bombay study reveals alarming levels of cancer-causing pollutants from vehicles on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. The research, focusing on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the Kamshet tunnel, links these pollutants, primarily from diesel vehicles, to a moderate lifetime cancer risk. The study also highlights the contribution of these pollutants to climate warming due to their light-absorbing properties.
