Dozens of people have been injured after a car ploughed into a crowd of people during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade on Monday. It took Merseyside Police less than two hours to reveal the ethnicity and nationality of the suspect. Contrast that with the lack of information following the Southport murders and subsequent riots last summer, and it’s clear the force has learnt lessons from the past. Report by Jonesia. The XFG variant, a sub-lineage of Omicron with strong immune evasion, has been detected across the country, raising global alarm. Originating in Canada, the variant carries four spike protein mutations. Globally, SARS-CoV-2 activity is rising, especially in South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions, with test positivity rates matching last year’s peak. WHO continues to monitor the spread amid poor ICU and hospitalization data from heavily affected regions.
