Venezuelans become largest nationality for illegal border crossings as September numbers surge
Sunday, 22 October 2023 Venezuelans have become the largest nationality arrested for illegally crossing the US border, surpassing Mexicans for the first time on record. In September, Border Patrol arrested Venezuelans 54,833 times, more than double the number of arrests in August. Total arrests of all nationalities entering from Mexico reached 218,763 in September. The Biden administration recently granted temporary legal status to nearly 500,000 Venezuelans already in the US but vowed to deport those who enter illegally after July 31.
