Lebanon must be kept out of Hamas-Israel war, patriarch says
Monday, 6 November 2023 Lebanon's top Christian cleric has called on state officials to protect the country from the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel. The Hezbollah group, backed by Iran, has been engaged in clashes with Israeli forces at the border. The cleric urged the application of a 2006 UN Security Council resolution that called for a ceasefire. He also called on Lebanon to support the Palestinian cause through political and diplomatic means. Hezbollah's leader has stated that the escalation in Lebanon will depend on events in Gaza and Israeli actions towards Lebanon.
