Social media companies must face youth addiction lawsuits, US judge rules

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 14 November 2023
A federal judge has rejected attempts by major social media companies to dismiss nationwide litigation accusing them of illegally enticing and addicting children to their platforms, causing mental health damage. The decision covers hundreds of lawsuits filed on behalf of individual children who allegedly suffered negative health effects from social media use. The ruling stated that the companies could be sued for negligence over their duty to design safe products and warn users of defects, but they were not obligated to protect users from harm caused by third-party users.
