Earthquake rattles houses in Maine and is felt hundreds of miles away

A 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck near York Harbor, Maine, on Monday morning, shaking buildings across New England and surprising residents as far as Pennsylvania. Centered six miles southeast of York Harbor at a depth of eight miles, the quake caused no reported damage or injuries, according to local emergency management agencies. While rare in the region, minor earthquakes occur in New England annually. Residents reported feeling strong shaking, but operations and infrastructure remained unaffected.
