Milwaukee's homeless residents who are showing symptoms of COVID-19 could soon be staying at the empty Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, Mayor Tom Barrett said on a Zoom meeting Sunday afternoon.

FRANCIS, AREAWHICH HAS A LOCATION THATSTRADDLES THE MILWAUKEE ST.FRANCIS BORDER.ON THIS PIECE OF PROPERTY, THEREIS A CONVENT THAT HAD BEENOCCUPIED THROUGH JANUARY OF THISYEAR.STARTING IN JANUARY OF THISYEAR, THIS CONVENT HAS NO LONGERBEEN OCCUPIEDS SO THEARCHDIOCESE REACHED OUT TO OURCITY OF MILWAUKEE HEALTHDEPARTMENT.OUR CITY OF MILWAUKEE HEALTHDEPARTMENT MADE THE CONNECTIONWITH THEM, THEY ALONG WITH THECOUNTY WENT AND TOURED NOT ONLYTHIS FACILITY, BUT THE COUSINSFACILITY TO SEE IF EITHER WOULDBE APPROPRIATE TO BE A HOUSE SOTHAT INDIVIDUALS, OLDERINDIVIDUALS PRIMARILY PEOPLESUSCEPTIBLE TO GETTING COVID-19SYMPTOMATIC WOULD HAVE APLACE TO BE SAFE AND SEPARATEDFROMQ) PEOPLE SO THEY WOULDHAVE T SOCIAL ISOLATION THEYNEED.THIS LOCATION S CLAIR'S HAULTURNS OUT TO BE A VERY GOODSOLID LOCATION.WORKING WITH WISCONSIN NATIONALGUARD, WORKING WITH THEMILWAUKEE COUNTY HOUSINGDIVISION, WORKING WITH THECOMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICE,ALONG WITH OUR HEALTHDEPARTMENT, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TOWORK VERY VERY CLOSELY AND WE'REJUST IRONING OUT THE FINALDETAILS WHICH, WITH TARCHDIOCESE RIGHT NOW THAT WOULDALL US, TO HAVE ESSENTIALLYTWO, ONE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARESUSCEPTIB AND ONE FOR THAT ARESYMPTOMATIC.THIS WOULD ALLOW US TO HAVE THESOCIAL ISOLATION THAT ISNECESSARY FOR OUR COMMUNITY.THE REASON THIS IS A GOOD SITEAND I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLEHAVE BEEN TO THIS SITE, TO THEEAST OF IT IS LAKE MICHIGAN,THERE ARE NOT MANY HOMES IN THISAREA AND IT WILL ALLOW US TOWORK VERY CLOSELY IN ACOLLABORATIVE EFFORT.SO I WANT TO GIVE A HUGE SHOUTOUT TO THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANDHIS STAFF, I WANT TO GIVE A HUGESHOUT OUT OUR HEALTH DEPARTMENT,OUR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT HASSPENT LITERALLY HUNDREDS OFHOURS, OVER THE LAST FEW DAYSPREPARING THIS SITE.IN ADDITION WE HAVE GOTTENDONATIONS FROM UNITED WAY WEHAVE GOTTEN DONATIONS FROM ANUMBER OF LOC HOTELS SO THATTHIS LOCATION WOULD BE UP
