Flowers were showered upon him by his neighbours in Mumbai on May 23.

He arrived to his native place after completely recovering from COVID-19.

On the loss of a legend par excellence, the music fraternity and political leaders from across the spectrum extended their condolences through social media.

Comedian Kapil Sharma appeared before the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police on Thursday to record his statement in connection with alleged cheating and forgery case against car designer Dilip Chhabria, an official said. The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai police had unearthed a major DC Avanti car financing and forgery scam and arrested Chhabria in the case last month. "During the investigation, it came to light that comedian Kapil Sharma had also been allegedly duped. He showed willingness to share information in connection with the case. Accordingly, he appeared before the CIU on Thursday to record his statement," the official said. The alleged scam came to light when the police seized a DC Avanti, a sports-car manufactured by Dilip Chhabria Design Pvt Ltd, in south Mumbai on a tip-off that its registration number was bogus. India records 13,788 new COVID cases in last 24 hours

As per the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), India on January 18 reported single-day spike of 13,788 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. 145 deaths in the same period pushed the COVID-19 toll in the country to 1,52,419. India's confirmed cases of coronavirus stand at 1,05,71,773 which include 2,08,012 active infections. More than 1,02,11,342 people have recovered from the virus with 14,457 new discharges in last 24 hours. According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 5,48,168 samples were tested on January 17. Cumulative samples tested for COVID-19 till January 17 are 18,70,93,036.
