SPENT THE DAY TRYING TOCLEAN AND SANITIZE THE FACILITY.BUT FOUR IN YOUR CORNER’S ROBMANCH HAS LEARNED, SEVERALPEOPLE THERE HAVE ALREADY DIED.115-120144-14ManorCare tells me they havealready moved 24 people out ofthis facility who wereCOVID-negative to protect themfrom contracting the disease.And we learned through a publicrecords request that at least 12people have died at thisfacility alone.PKG:Staff in full protective gearcould be seen throughout the daygoing in and out of thefacilityMany were discarding items,filling up a dumpster outsidethe brim.Meanwhile, the entrance to thenursing home was covered in ablue tarp, and a cleaningcompany could be seen on-site aswell.I reached out to ManorCare for acomment, and they provided astatement that said, in partquote: "after carefulconsideration, we have decidedit would be in the best interestto move our COVID-19 negativepatients out of the center andto one of our other locationsWe realize this a worrisome timefor families, but with ourprecautions in place we can takethe necessary steps to ensureeveryone’s safety."But our public records requestshowed, the company only tookthese steps after those 12people died.I wanted to learn how anoutbreak could be this deadly injust a period of two months.So I spoke with Dr. LoureeDownes, with the nursepractitioner program at FGCU"The CDC has already identifiedthat the elderly are at muchhigher risk of dying fromCOVID-19.

As a matter of fact,they cite a statistic of about26 times more likely to die."Downes says facilities like thisone are at risk, because theremay not be proper ventilation,and they often have communalfacilities like bathrooms andeating areas.That’s a concern we first heardraised all the way back inMarch, when Dr. Zubin Pachorifrom NCH spoke to the CollierCounty Commission."The very first hot spot in thecountry was in Kirkland, inWashington, which was at askilled nursing facility.

Wehave about a dozen of those inthis county.

If one or two ofthose get it, our ER’s, ourICU’s, our hospitals, are done."Dr. Downes tells me the messagefrom all of this is that we needto still be protectingourselve"It is not gone, and we are at,we need to really be careful andprotect each other, maintainsocial distancing, wear a mask.Those are the two key areas, andmaintain our hygiene practices."TAG:And ManorCare tells me, it couldmove even more patients out ofthis facility in the near futureif it finds that the risk ofthem staying here is jus
