State Superintendent of Education's Plan For Opening Schools

State Superintendent of Education Dr.Eric Mackie discusses new plan for opening schools.

New at ten -- we're hearing from state superintendent of education doctor eric mackey after he announced a plan for reopening schools.

The plan gives each district the responsibility to create plans for traditional, remote, and blended learning.

Tradition is the normal face- to-face in-class learning.

Remote is when students work online from home.

Blended is a mix of both!

It's not a mandate guidelines for schools to follow.

That also leave room for differences.

Every school is going......may look very different from another.

We asked doctor mackey about a scenerio where schools would shut down again.

He says the state health officer has that power.

We believe....and together make decisions.

We reached out to school districts across north alabama to get their response to the plan.

We'll begin with disticts in the metro area.

Right now -- there are more than 21-hundred coronavirus cases and 9 deaths in the region.

Huntsville school board president - elisa ferrell - said she wants parents to know the district is keeping all options on the table.

She said a lot depends on the number of coronavirus cases in the area around the time school starts.

"it's an everchanging thing.

Everyday those numbers are different so we're looking at that.

We're talking to local health authorities for the best plan for the kids to keep them safe.'

Ferrell said reopening isn't an easy task.

She said the district needs to make a plan that works for students and the community.
