Republican and Democratic governors said on Monday President Donald Trump's coronavirus relief measures were too expensive for states to implement as they struggle with the costs of the pandemic, and called on officials in Washington to resume negotiations on federal aid. Gloria Tso reports.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday dug into Democrats for wanting "Uncle Sam" to pay unemployed Americans more than they'd normally make amid the coronavirus crisis, while Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer hit back, saying such a comment is "demeaning" to hard-working citizens.
US President Donald Trump abruptly escorted out of the White House briefing room by a Secret Service agent while he addressing reporters on Monday afternoon. Trump, however, returned minutes later, saying there was a 'shooting' outside the White House. "There was a shooting outside the White House and it seems to be very well under control. I would like to thank the Secret Service for doing their always quick and very effective work. But there was an actual shooting and somebody has been taken to the hospital. I don't know about the condition of the person. Seems like the person was shot at by the Secret Service," he said. Trump said he was escorted to the Oval Office by the agent. He also praised work of of the Secret Service personnel. Law enforcement officials are trying to determine the suspect's motive. The suspect was transferred to a local hospital. District of Columbia fire dept said the man suffered serious or possibly critical injuries. Authorities are investigating whether the individual has a history of mental illness. White House was placed on lockdown following the incident. The shooting reportedly took place near 17th Street & Pennsylvania Avenue, just blocks from the White House.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot returned to Jaipur, Rajasthan on Tuesday. Pilot said he has not demanded any post from the party and there should not be any vendetta politics. On Monday, a meeting between Sachin Pilot and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had signaled an "amicable resolution" of nearly a month-long Rajasthan political crisis ahead of the crucial assembly session beginning August 14. The Congress leader said that he did not make any statement against the party and had gone to discuss issues with the Congress high command in Delhi. I have not demanded any post from the party, he added. Pilot, however, said he was shocked at statements made against him."I am sad, shocked, and hurt due to the kind of words used against me," Pilot said. He said there should not be any space for “personal ill-feelings” in politics and there should not be any vendetta politics.
