Waay 31's sydney martin is live outside huntsville city hall after talking to area leaders about the number of coronavirus cases in the state and county - and their optimism that cases are starting to come under control.

Pam hudson, crestwood hospital ceo "since july 22nd everyday the number of new cases has declined.

Right before that we were announcing about 176 new cases a day.

Today is plus 56."

4 which is a 2 percent decrease."

Pam hudson, crestwood hospital ceo"our numbers have demonstrated that that it can get pretty bad, pretty quick.

The good thing is the masking strategy works so we can get pretty good on a predictable skill."

Finley explained the county is still seeing a higher rate of case increase than the state..

Paul finley, mayor of madison, "i looked at the last week, so being here wednesday to wednesday the state was up 16% as far as cases and the community was up 20%" pam hudson, crestwood hospital ceo"while we are reporting some good news today, we cannot become complacent at all."

And finley warned governor ivey may need to reconsider options.

Paul finley, mayor of madison, "we continue to watch numbers and data doesn't lie and so if we get to the point where we can't continue on that process then she is going to have to make another change."
