24 states including Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have more than 15% positivity rate for COVID-19 in their daily infections, informed Union Health Ministry. "Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Haryana and Bihar have a high caseload," said Arti Ahuja, Additional Secretary (Health) while addressing a press conference in Delhi.
As the number of COVID cases is increasing in Bihar, state Health Minister Mangal Pandey on May 06 said the state government has now given the power to District Magistrate and medical colleges' superintendent to appoint doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for 3 months during this COVID period. "As cases are rising in the state we need more manpower to increase beds in hospitals. District Magistrate and medical colleges' superintendents can now appoint doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for 3 months during this COVID period," Pandey told ANI.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on March 25 slammed JDU government in Bihar over the action against opposition MLAs and sharply criticised Bihar Special Armed Police Bill 2021. "Bihar Police has become JDU's and Nitish Kumar's Police. Officers and CM should realize that we aren't BJP that we'll be scared of batons. Nitish Kumar will have to take back the black law or amend it," Tejashwi said.
In a fresh, albeit expected, twist in Bihar politics, Upendra Kushwaha-led Rashtriya Lok Samata Party announced a merger with ruling Janata Dal (United). Subsequently, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced the appointment of Kushwaha as JD(U)'s national parliamentary board chief. The latter had quit JD(U) in 2013 and formed the RLSP. Kushwaha was part of the NDA during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and was eventually made a Union minister. However, he quit in 2018 due to differences in a seat sharing formula for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
