Eco-friendly diyas with plant seeds gain traction as Diwali approaches

The trend of eco-friendly 'diyas' is growing in the country as the festival of Diwali approaches.

In another unique example, over 1 lakh diyas and idols are being prepared using cow dung under an initiative by Municipal Corporation in Lucknow.

"Plant seeds have been put in these eco-friendly diyas and idols so that a plant grows out of them if dumped in soil after use," said Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, Municipal Commissioner, Lucknow.
