Hundreds of people paid homage to former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi passed away at age of 86. Gogoi had tested positive for COVID in August.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge mourned the death of his party leaders and said that it's unfortunate that COVID-19 took the lives of Ahmed Patel and Tarun Gogoi. "We've deeply saddened on the demise of Ahmed Patel. I knew him since 1976. We're feeling that a man, who always stood by the party, has left us today when the party is in crisis. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has taken the lives of Ahmed ji and Tarun Gogoi," said Kharge.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid floral tribute to the former chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi. He was accompanied by Congress National General Secretary K C Venugopal. Tarun Gogoi passed away on November 23 at GMCH in Guwahati. He was undergoing treatment for post-COVID complications.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel accused BJP of maligning any sort of protests. Baghel said that BJP called them Pakistani, Khalistani and even alleged them of being middleman's broker, but they won't be successful in their attempts in suppressing farmers. CM Bhupesh Baghel said, "Whenever there's a protest, BJP tries to malign it. As for protesting farmers, sometimes they (BJP) called them Pakistani or Khalistani. They even alleged that farmers are middleman's broker. NIA's notice has also been sent to the houses of the protesting farmers. Regardless of their attempts to suppress, farmers won't be scared."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Light House Projects (LHPs) under Global Housing Technology Challenge-India on January 01 via video conferencing. An adult male rhino was immobilised and shifted to Assam State Zoo in Guwahati on January 19. Rhino had strayed out of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) on January 16. It was spotted in Bamunipam and was successfully guided inside the park.

COVID-19 vaccine 'Covishield' arrived at Guwahati's airport on January 12. It has been sent to vaccine storage centre. First consignment of COVID-19 vaccine also arrived at Lucknow airport. Dispatched by Pune's Serum Institute of India today, vaccine's first consignment has reached several states including Delhi, Karnataka and Bihar.
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that maximum number of electors at a polling station has been reduced from 1500 to 1000 in Assam. "In view of Covid social distancing norms, the Commission has specifically revisited some extant norms. As a result, the maximum number of electors at a polling station has been reduced from 1500 to 1000," he said.

He passed away on November 23 at GMCH in Guwahati. Tarun Gogoi was undergoing treatment at GMCH for post-COVID complications. His health condition was in critical stage.
Union Health Ministry commented on the deaths post the covid-19 vaccination. Additional secretary said that 3 out of 4 deaths were unrelated to vaccination. In total 7.86 lakh healthcare workers have received Covid-19 vaccine jabs till the evening of the fifth day of the nationwide immunisation drive, as per provisional report of the Union Health Ministry on Jan 20. "The cumulative number of healthcare workers vaccinated against Covid-19 has touched 7,868,42 (till 6 pm Wednesday) through 14,119 sessions, as per the provisional report," the ministry said. On the four deaths reported, one each from Uttar Pradesh and Telangana and two from Karnataka, the official said in case of the death from Moradabad in UP, post mortem confirmed cardio-pulmonary disease and is not related to vaccination. “About the death reported from Bellary in Karnataka, post mortem suggested myocardial infarction and it is not related to vaccination. The other death reported in Shivamoga is also a suspected case of myocardial infarction not related to immunization,” Union Health Ministry Manohar Agnani said. Watch the full video for more.

Serum Institute of India's vaccine consignment arrived at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on January 21. The consignment is containing 10 lakh dosages which will be dispatched to Kathmandu and 20 lakh dosages to Dhaka.
