Aerial recce confirms water accumulation above Chamoli's Raini village: SDRF DIG

The rescue operations continued at Tapovan Tunnel in Chamoli district on the sixth day following the disaster.

Flash flood following the glacier burst swept the district.

Out of 204 persons, 168 are still missing, death toll rises to 36, informed Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar.

"Out of the 204 missing persons, 36 bodies have been recovered.

168 persons are still missing.

Relief and rescue operations underway," said DGP Kumar.

Several disaster management agencies are on ground zero for rescue operations in the areas.

Meanwhile, SDRF DIG, Ridhim Aggarwal said that there is a possibility of water accumulation above Raini village near Tapovan area.

"There is a possibility that water is being accumulated above Raini village near Tapovan area.

Many aerial recces have been done.

An 8-member SDRF team sent today on foot to assess the situation.

Further action to be taken after evaluation," said DIG Aggarwal.

ITBP, NDRF, sister agencies are conducting aerial recces to access the situation.

The police have issued an alert and requested locals not to panic.
