Get set for up to eight hours without electricity following Eskom’s sharp intensification of load shedding to Stage 6 on January 10.

At the same time hang on to your wallets, as on January 12, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) increased the average Eskom electricity price for the 2023/24 year.

Nersa has arrived at an increase ofn18.65% commencing on April 1.

On Wednesday, Eskom said in a statement Stage 6 load shedding would be implemented continuously until further notice.

Stage 6 means rotational power cuts of 6 000MW and, depending on the area, roughly eight hours per day of no electricity from Eskom.

People on the ground spoke out about their dissatisfaction with the power cuts and tariff increase.
