SEAT Toledo Marathon - I RallyClassics Africa

Three decades after its debut in competition, the SEAT Toledo Marathon has returned to compete… and win.

It has done so in the I RallyClassics Africa, a regularity and navigation test that allows classic rally-raid vehicles to demonstrate their performance in their natural habitat, the desert, a place for which the Toledo Marathon was developed in the 90s.

So much so that he dreamed of participating in the Dakar Rally.

After its presentation at the 1993 Barcelona Motor Show, and after two years of development, the SEAT Toledo Marathon debuted that year in Baja Portugal, scoring for the FIA World Cup for Off-Road Rallyes.

The first big victory for the Spanish model did not take long to arrive.

It was in the Grecia Raid, where Josep María Servià and Enric Oller led the double of two Toledo Marathons, followed by Antonio Rius and Manel Casanova.

This was the first international victory in SEAT's history.

The successful foray of the Toledo Marathon into off-road rallies continued in 1994, when the Spanish model was on the podium in the three events in which it participated: it was second in the Baja Portugal, third in the Baja Aragón and second in the Raid de Grecia.

.

This would be the last race for the model, after the decision made by SEAT Sport to make the jump to the World Rally Championship, where the brand would win a triple title in the 2 Liter World Championship (1996, 1997 and 1998).
