Sir Keir Starmer has praised Alistair Strathern for making history, after he won the seat of Mid Bedfordshire with a majority of 1,192 over his Tory rival Festus Akinbusoye.

The result marked a swing of 20.5 percentage points to Labour in the constituency.

The Labour Party Leader said “It is clear that the voters here have turned their back on a failed Tory government.
