Melissa Barrera Talks 'Scream' Firing, Says She Had a "Big Awakening" | THR News Video
Melissa Barrera says she had a "big awakening" after being fired from the 'Scream' franchise.
Spyglass Media fired the actress from the rebooted franchise after she posted to social media about the Israel-Gaza conflict, which they deemed were antisemitic posts.
Speaking to the Associated Press at the Sundance Film Festival, the 'Your Monster' star said that after the ordeal, she's had time to reflect on how her support of Palestinians and calls for a ceasefire in the region has helped her realize more about herself.
Hamas has responded "in a positive spirit" to a U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal proposed by President Donald Trump, opening the door for negotiations to end the 21-month-long Gaza war. The proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire, return of hostages, and negotiations on long-term peace. Trump, optimistic about a breakthrough, warned Israeli PM Netanyahu to act swiftly. However, differences remain, including troop withdrawal timelines and humanitarian access. Overnight, Israeli strikes killed at least 138 Palestinians, including children in Khan Younis. Meanwhile, hostagesā families marked U.S. Independence Day in Tel Aviv by calling on Trump to āmake the deal.ā The situation remains fragile as both sides weigh the terms.
