Iraq Military Base Strike: Iraq confirms no drones or planes were in air at time of explosion
Shortly after a significant explosion shook an Iraqi military base, the nation's security services reported that no drones or warplanes were detected in the air at the time of the incident.
The explosion, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to eight others, took place at the Kalsu facility in the city of Babylon.
According to reports, the military base was utilised by Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and is situated approximately 30 miles to the south of Baghdad.
“No drones or combat aircraft in the airspace of Babylon province before or during the explosion” (DISPLAY) an Iraqi security forces media unit said in a statement.
The confirmation was delivered by the military wing’s air defence command.
Just hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile at the U.S. Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, multiple military installations across Iraq were rocked by drone strikes, sparking fears of a wider regional escalation. The first blast targeted Camp Taji, a massive base north of Baghdad known to house U.S. personnel and key radar systems. Moments later, explosions were reported at Balad Air Base and Imam Ali Air Base in Dhi Qar Province, with radar systems reportedly destroyed.

Following the Arab League Summit in Baghdad, Hamas fiercely criticized Arab leaders for failing to take meaningful action as Israel’s assault on Gaza intensified. The group demanded enforcement of Riyadh resolutions, lifting of the blockade, and sanctions on Israel. Citing massacres in northern Gaza that coincided with the summit, Hamas stressed the need for urgent global solidarity. Other resistance factions echoed similar sentiments, condemning Arab regimes for hollow statements and complicity in genocide. The factions emphasized that real intervention, not symbolism, is urgently needed to halt the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

The 34th Arab League Summit in Baghdad is dominated by Gaza’s unfolding humanitarian catastrophe. Iraq’s PM labelled Israel’s actions “genocide,” pledging $40 million for Gaza and Lebanon’s reconstruction. The summit follows President Trump’s controversial Gaza remarks during his Middle East tour. Leaders including Mahmoud Abbas and UN chief Guterres demand an immediate ceasefire, aid access, and legal accountability. Spain announced plans to push the ICC to examine Israel’s compliance with aid delivery laws, intensifying diplomatic pressure. A unified Arab plan calls for Gaza’s rebuilding without displacing its 2.4 million residents.
