TUC leader revels in Tory misfortune in general election
Unions are planning to work closely with the new Government to rebuild the country after 14 years of Tory “chaos”, according to the leader of the TUC.
Paul Nowak, general secretary of the TUC, said: "Two months ago the British people cast their verdict on one of the most right wing, incompetent, anti-union, morally bankrupt governments this country has ever seen, and congress it feels good to be meeting here in Brighton for the first time in 15 years under a Labour government." Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Richard Fuller urged Rachel Reeves to keep to her fiscal rules as she unveils her spending review. He said that whilst it is nice to announce spending, “money doesn’t grow on trees” and tax rises must be avoided. While backing key infrastructure projects, he said Reeves must prove she can fund plans without “coming back for more taxes”.
