Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243, an Embraer 190, crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, on December 25, 2024.
The plane, which had been diverted from Grozny due to poor weather conditions and Ukrainian drone attacks, attempted an emergency landing but crashed, killing 38 of the 67 passengers.
Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has cited "technical external interference" as the likely cause of the accident, though initial reports suggest a possible bird strike or an oxygen cylinder explosion.
The incident is under investigation by Azerbaijani and Kazakh authorities.

Ukraineâs intelligence agency has confirmed a major shift in Russian weapon manufacturing: the discovery of an Indian-made component in Iranian-designed Shahed drones used by Moscow. As Western sanctions tighten, Russia is now relying on Chinese, Iranian, and non-Western tech to sustain its military-industrial machine. The majority of electronics found in these drones are no longer American-made. Experts warn that clandestine supply chains â through countries like India, TĂŒrkiye, and Kazakhstan â are helping Russia replenish banned components and continue its war efforts with little global accountability.

In a stunning political shift, nearly 90% of Ukrainians say they donât trust U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a new poll marking his first 100 days back in office. Once seen as a possible dealmaker in the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump is now viewed with deep skepticism in Kyiv after refusing to provide security guarantees, blaming Ukrainian leadership for the ongoing conflict, and proposing a controversial peace plan that many see as favoring Moscow. Is Trump abandoning Ukraine? Or reshaping U.S. foreign policy with cold realism?

U.S Special Envoy Steve Witkoff recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin in a bid to persuade Russia for a ceasefire deal in Ukraine. This was the 4th such meeting in just over 2 months, but there seems to be no breakthrough yet as Putin remains firm recognition of Russia's control over Crimea and the four regions under Russian control since 2022. With peace talks stalling, could a Putin-Trump summit be the only path forward?
