Just three days before the Trump–Putin meeting, Russia and Ukraine have launched heavy attacks, intensifying the war. Russia struck a Ukrainian training center with banned cluster munitions, killing one and injuring 11. In retaliation, Ukraine hit a Russian command post in Donetsk, killing the commander of the 85th Rifle Brigade, call sign “Dniepr,” and five soldiers. With diplomacy stalling and both sides trading deadly blows, the fate of the conflict appears to be decided on the battlefield rather than at the negotiating table.
