Sunita Williams homecoming as Jhulasan, Gujarat, her ancestral village, prepares grand celebrations for her return from a nine-month ISS mission.
Villagers have prayed for her safety, lighting an Akhand Jyot at the Dola Mata temple.
A grand procession, dhun (prayer chanting), and fireworks will mark the occasion.
Sunita Williams, originally from Mehsana, is returning with astronaut Butch Wilmore after a delayed mission.
The village hopes to welcome her soon, honouring her space achievements, including her 62 hours of spacewalks across nine missions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Moscow continues scientific cooperation with Western experts despite heavy sanctions and political isolation. Speaking in Sarov, Russia’s nuclear hub, Putin insisted that science, like art and sports, cannot be destroyed by politics. He revealed that joint projects persist in nuclear, space, and medical research, even with some NATO states, while new ventures in nuclear medicine are emerging. According to Putin, Russia lost Finland as a partner but continues work with France, Germany, and Hungary through Rosatom. He stressed that Russia still supplies nuclear fuel and services to “unfriendly” countries, hinting that departing partners may eventually return.
